Types of Darshan

Dress Code — What to Wear

The Ram Mandir maintains a traditional dress code in keeping with the sanctity of the temple. This is strictly enforced at the main entrance.

What to Carry, What to Leave Behind

Footwear must be removed before entering the main temple complex. Dedicated shoe lockers are available at all entry gates — free of charge.

The Sacred Architecture — What You Will See

The Ram Mandir is a masterpiece of Nagara-style architecture, built entirely in Rajasthani pink sandstone (Bansi Paharpur stone). No iron or steel has been used in the construction — every joint is held by the ancient Indian technique of interlocking stones.

The Five Shikhars

The main tower (shikhar) soars 161 feet above the ground, symbolising the cosmic Mount Meru. Four smaller shikhars flank it — together they represent the Panch Mahabhuta (five elements). The kalash atop each shikhar is pure gold-plated copper.

The 84-Column Mandapa

The mandapa (hall) is supported by 84 beautifully carved columns, each depicting scenes from the Ramayana. Do not rush past them — every column tells a different chapter of Ram's life. Plan at least 30 minutes just for the mandapa.

Ram Lalla's Garbhagriha

The main sanctum houses the divine idol of Ram Lalla — Ram in his child (bal) form, approximately 51 inches tall, carved from black stone (Shyamal stone). He is dressed in yellow silk, adorned with fresh flowers daily, and seated on a golden throne. The idol was sculpted by Arun Yogiraj of Mysuru.

Key Darshan Points Inside the Complex

Saryu Snan — Before Your Darshan

The most devout yatris take a dip in the Saryu river before darshan. This purification ritual is mentioned in the Ramayana itself — Lord Ram himself bathed in Saryu daily. The most auspicious ghats are:

Prasad — What is Authentic

The official prasad at Ram Mandir is the Panchaamrit (mixture of milk, curd, ghee, honey and sugar) and Panchameva laddoo prepared in the Mandir's own kitchen under strict hygiene standards.

⚠️ Important: Avoid buying prasad from street vendors outside the temple gates. Only purchase from designated Mandir Trust counters inside the complex. This ensures authenticity and also supports the temple's own seva activities.

Getting to Ram Mandir

Staying Near Ram Mandir

Dozens of dharamshalas (pilgrim guesthouses) around the Mandir area offer affordable accommodation — many are free for bhakts. The Ayodhya App's offline map lists verified dharamshalas with ratings from the Bhakt Sangh community.

For those seeking hotel-style comfort, several properties have opened near Ram ki Paidi in the last two years. Book early — Ayodhya now receives 1–2 lakh pilgrims daily.
